the exhibition space luke

'luke' (could be translated with: a hatch) stands for the act of opening. In addition, 'luke' refers specifically to an exhibition space with a skylight attached to Sandro Steudler's studio. Situated in a large, cooperatively organised commercial or studio building, luke seeks an in-depth exchange about art and internal, national and international networking. The art space is one of the consequences of ideas for alternative, cooperative exhibition concepts that are being developed together with Ursula Palla.

introduction from the exhibition text to the group exhibition 'Selbstverklumpungen' (could be translated with: self conglomerations or lump)

The term "Klumpe" («lump») stands for a state of being unshaped, unformed. For a form yet to be assumed, the lump is an unformed beginning. In the exhibition Selbstverklumpungen, positions are shown that consciously thematise the unfinished as opposed to a closure. Closely connected to this is the idea of the self: a definitively completed self-assurance is rejected in favour of constant changeability and remaining in the possible. Transformation into the open!

The late capitalist subject - as a subcategory of the global flow of goods, finance and data - also has to be a highly fluid, adaptable subject. However, this is rarely accompanied by openness, but rather in many places the hardest encapsulations/seclusions can be observed in the respective own filter bubble, as political radicalisation, in anthropocentrism and as narcissistic self-reference. Where can strategies of resistance and opening up be found? ...
