Poster Collection. Hors-Sol — Poster Actions in Switzerland

Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, Plakatsammlung (Hg.), Verlag Lars Müller Publishers, 2001

Hors-Sol is a record of poster actions conducted by the fine artists in public spaces from 1961 to today.
With essays by Bettina Richter and André V. Heiz, with an epilogue by Harald Szeemann.

«Hor-Sol» is a documentation of poster campaigns of visual artists in public space in Switzerland, starting with a provocative action by the Zurich concretists in 1961. Posters mainly used for commercial messages are transformed into vehicles for new contents, partly anchored in the art context, partly in advertisement. An exhibition at the Museum für Gestaltung (Museum of Design) in Zürich in 2001 presented a 'chronicle' of these art interventions with posters in public space. At the same time a poster campaign in public space by art students of HGK (University of Arts Zürich, departement of visual art and photography) took place. These works are also included and represented in the publication «Hor-Sol».
