The LONGEST DAY becomes THE LONGEST NIGHT this December. The well-known and successful format of the 16-hour performance marathon will be moved into winter this year, to the longest night and into the interior according to the season. From sunset on 21 December at 4.36 p.m. until sunrise on 22 December at 8.11 a.m., the 16 hours lie as a clear grid over the night and set the pace: 16 invited artists from various fields (performance, instal­lation, music/​sound art, dance/​choreo­graphy, theatrical or parti­ci­patory practices), each have one hour available for their perfor­mances/​acts. According to the principle of a relay race, the artists pass on their invitation to other artists or persons from another field (also from outside the field of art) with whom they would like to share their time window. The number of perfor­mative actions can thus double to 32.

THE LONGEST NIGHT combines old traditions with modern livestyle to offer a different kind of cultural parti­ci­pation and festivity in this dark season, independent of consu­merism and overloaded kitsch. You could also say: everyone is on a night shift! - Or, they might just commit themselves to take THE whole LONGEST NIGHT with all their mood curves.
