at Hafnarborg at the Hafnarfjörður Centre of Culture and Fine Art. was founded in 1983 and became the seat of the city's art collection.
Hafnarborg runs an artist-in-residence programme with an apartment and studio on the top floor of the museum building at Strandgata 34 in the centre of Hafnarfjörður. The programme welcomes foreign artists* from various disciplines.

The mission of Hafnarborg - the centre for culture and art in Hafnarfjörður - is to maintain dynamic and ambitious cultural functions, thus creating the basis for a diverse cultural life in the city. Hafnarborg therefore preserves Hafnarfjörður's art collection and is responsible for researching and exhibiting this collection for the benefit of the town's guests and residents. It also aims to ensure that this heritage continues to be an outstanding part of Icelandic culture and art history. Hafnarborg also runs an inter­na­tional artist-in-residence programme.
