With the Sympodium we generated a temporal platform, which itself turned into a performative process about the relation between performance art and the notion of performativity. Its title is formulated as an open question, a question that can bring up yet other questions, as an agency for engagement, commitment and reflection. We set up a three-day event that brought together performance artists and artists who work in performance in the field of contemporary art, curators and theoreticians closely engaged with the context of the performance art scene and the production and exchange of knowledge in the field of art. The Sympodium, with its experimental and unconventional
format, was neither a symposium nor a festival, but rather a hybrid drawing on features from both. It gave a unique opportunity to bring together performative interventions, performances, presentations performed, critical reflections and collective discussions providing immediate feedback and the possibility for a close relation between the
audience and the artists and theoreticians involved. …

Schlussbericht in Deutsch für Pro Helvetia

Mit dem Sympodium schufen wir eine Plattform, die zum aktiven performativen Prozess über die Beziehung von Performance Kunst und dem Begriff Performativität mutierte. Der Titel der Veranstaltung ist eine offene Frage, eine Frage, die wieder andere Fragen nach sich zieht, in dem Sinne ein Werkzeug für Engagement, Hingabe und Reflexion. Die dreitägige Veranstaltung versammelte Performance Künstler:innen und Künstler:innen, die mit Performance im Feld der zeitgenössischen Kunst arbeiten, Kuratoren:innen und Theoretiker:innen, die in der zeitgenössischen Kunst aufs Engste mit Performance Kunst Szenen und der Produktion und dem Austausch im Wissensfeld der Kunst verbunden sind. Das Sympodium mit seinem experimentellen und unkonventionellen Format war weder ein Symposium noch ein Festival, eher ein Hybrid mit Merkmalen von beiden. Es bot eine einmalige Gelegenheit, performative Interventionen, Performances, performte Präsentationen, kritische Reflexionen und kollektive Diskussionen zusammenzubringen.
