festival concept of «Live Art 2011 Bangalore» and booklet

In 2011 Smitha and Dorothea developped together the idea for the festival concept for Live Art Festival Bangalore, which Smitha then realized in collaboration with BAR1. Live Art 2011 was a performance art project by Bar1, organized by Smitha Cariappa, an idea nurtured with passion, necessity and impulse after Smitha’s experience as an audience in the Performance art events at THE LONGEST DAY 16 hours nonstop performances outdoors Zurich, in 2007 curated by Dorothea Rust and Peter Emch. It began with the idea of an Indo-Swiss Performance Art Exchange with Dorothea Rust and Monica Klingler from Switzerland as the co-curators. In the course of 9 months it took form as an International Live art platform with 26 Indian and International artists. The important segment of LIVE ART 2011 was the Dawn to Dusk event called «Open House» on November 15 2011. It became a Performance Art Marathon from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. under the Richmond flyover, Mission road and Double road by first time performers who gave solo and group performances. The idea of THE LONGEST DAY was absorbed and improvised in the «Open House». The goal to narrow the gap between the artist and audience and bring Live Art to the common wo-man. To stream non stop for 12 hours in public space. ...

has been a democratic space for Karnataka artists. Its very creation is steeped in the struggles and successes of Karnataka’s artists. It has been the venue for many historical events and shows in the past. It is also a space accessible, not only for Bangalore artists, but also for those in other parts of Karnataka. VAG Forum believes that it has to continue to remain this way., and thus, rejects an MoU signed in July 2015. The About section of this website will provide the reader with insights into the forums reasons to reject the MoU between MAP – an initiative of Tasveer Foundation, and the Government. BAR1 Bengaluru Artist Residency One (text from India Flundation for the Arts)
is a non-profit artist exchange programme set up and run by a collective of visual artists from Bangalore. In 2008 and 2009, IFA supported BAR1’s 1st and 2nd multidisciplinary India-India residencies, which hosted a group of artists for three months at the BAR1 studio space in Bangalore. Following the success of the first two editions of the programme, this grant enables BAR1 to host the 3rd India-India residency.
