dialogue
a somatic improvisational exchange with verbal discussions from zoom to video
about the video-project, text by Eva Karczag
The hour-long video ’dialogue’ was shown during the exhibition, Collective fragments - a performative process and experimental piece, concept initiated by Anne Sylvie Henchoz and Dorothea Rust – at TUNNEL TUNNEL espace d'art Lausanne (30 August - 4 September, 2021). The video was created using selections from recordings of ongoing online Zoom meetings, held between July 2020 and August 2021. The dialogs encompassed verbal discussions and physical exchanges.
In their conversations, Rust and Karczag talked about their shared New York experiences during the 1980s. They reflected on the relevance of practices and attitudes that were set in motion during this time, on current work created by dance, visual and performance artists. Within their physical exchanges, they explored ways that body-mind sensory approaches shape the ways we move, watch and respond in movement.
The resulting recordings were then edited into short videos. There were no rules or agreements stipulating the manner in which editing would be approached. Each artist edited fragments - some recordings of themselves and some recordings of the other - in whatever ways the material spoke to them. In this way, when combined into one collected whole, they became collected fragments.
