«Reencounter with Eva Karczag + first encounter with Sojourner Truth at the ROADMAP-TO-EQUALITIES-IN-THE-ARTS conference in Arnhem (NL), 16-19 January 2020»

For almost 10 years Eva Karczag and I have not seen each other. Rather spontaneously we decided to meet again in Arnhem, where Eva is living. We brought each other up to date on our live situations, fields of interest and activities. As in the past, yet because of the long period of time we haven't seen each other, also unfamiliar and new we improvised, exchanged ideas in bodywork and about interesting texts on 'somatics' (an ominous term, we both thought).

The mutual desire is to make plans and develop strategies for a future joint project. In this project, Eva and I would like to reflect, from where each of us is right now, on our points of intersection in (postmodern) dance when we first met in New York in the

1980s. The experiences that each of us had had in dance in New York were groundbreaking.

During my stay in Arnhem, Eva and I attended a conference on intersectionality. In this conference we could see connections to our dance practice, how we experience movement and encounter with others in space. Our understanding of movement in

space in the Performing Arts and in Performance\Art seems to be compatible with intersectional thinking and doing. What we have experienced and discussed together at the conference, key words that have been heard will influence our (renewed) collaboration.
